As of today, there are only 3 more weeks of classes left this semester. This means a great deal to me, not only because I will have a LOT more time to knit and train, I have more time to spend with hubby and my little pack of pups. I love my little family so, so much. 🙂

I’m making a lot of headway on a commission for one of my mum’s work friends. So far I’ve made a little hat, booties and sweater for this person’s soon-to-be-born niece, and just today I cast on for a simple but lovely afghan. I think I’ll work 8×8 squares, stockinette alternating with lace blocks. I started making one like it a few years ago for my cousin Jocelyn’s baby, but never finished and in fact I frogged it. Let’s hope this one works out…particularly since I’ll be getting paid for it.

I managed to score on the last TLE update! 3 skeins of Wollmeise 80/20 – Lavendel, Grashupfer, and Red Hot Chili. Also grabbed a couple skeins of Dream in Color Smooshy while I was at it. Yeah, I know – I said I wasn’t going to buy any new yarn until the Spring Fling. Weeeell…As one of the gals in the Perpetual Yarn Dieters group on Ravelry said, “Wollmeise is a law unto itself”. Amen, sister-friend!

In about half an hour, I’m heading out to my SnB. Our group has grown to about 8, depending on how many people can make it out. Tonight we will have 6, or so I believe. I had to miss last week because I went out of town to visit Ginger on my March Break, but tonight, I’m going to have a nice pear cider and maybe some hummus and veggies, and knit my heart out!

Puppy love

This is my new baby, Remi:

We went and got her on Wednesday night. Eric and I were listening to Canada spank Russia 7-3 as we drove with our new baby girl in the car. ^-^ Big sister Kali is taking some time to get used to her, but for the most part they are getting along well. They play bite-face for hours and hours, tire each other out, go for a nap, and then start all over again. It’s freaking adorable.

Here we see miss Kali playing with her baby sister in the yard:

I think I am going to make them matching sweaters for Xmas. By then, Remi ought to be big enough that I won’t have to worry too much about measurement. But then again, she has some German shepherd in her so she might even grow up to be bigger than Kali! We’ll have to see.

I feel kind of crappy, though, because I had to leave Eric alone with the two of them until later tonight. I had class from 11:30 to 2:30, and now I’m waiting for my friend Rebecca to be finished her last class so that we can go to practice lab together at 4:30 for an hour or so. If that weren’t enough busy-ness, I’m also going to my SnB for 7:30. There really isn’t much point in going home between practice lab and SnB, because it takes me half an hour to drive home from the college. Say we finish at 5:30, 6:00-ish. By the time I get home, it’ll be 6:30 and I will only have half an hour with hubby and the puppies before I have to leave again. Luckily, Eric is off today so he is able to take care of the wee ones. Tomorrow when he goes on night shifts, it’ll be my turn. Payback time! 😉

Ooh, I am also excited because there will be a Saturday morning BJJ class tomorrow! This is something that began last week, but I couldn’t go because I was working. I plan on going on the alternate weekends where I don’t work…although apparently I might be getting laid off soon, so perhaps it will not be so easy to afford the gym membership. We’ll see. I want to try and get a job with the health unit or something this summer, which could be really, really, really nice.

I think that’s it for now. I guess you could say that as soon as I leave the college tonight, I’ll officially be on READING WEEK!!!!! I’m so excited! Although, I will be working super hard on my final assignment for Chronic Health Challenges, a paper worth 60% of my final mark. Holy crap!!!

Why a starfish, you ask?

Well, I was at a baby shower on Saturday. I had never met the mommy-to-be (Krysta) except for on Facebook, although I technically linked to her through both my friend Kristina (who had a baby with Krysta’s husband Ross long before they were married) and the lady who hooks up the TV’s at the hospital (Kathy), who is the mommy-to-be’s mommy. At this shower, I finally got to meet Krysta, and gifted her with a pretty little cot blanket I had made for the occasion. She was thrilled with it, I am happy to report. 🙂

Fast forward to yesterday afternoon at work. Kathy comes in to pick up her pager when I’m on my shift, and so I get to chat with her before she goes to hook up the tellies. Yesterday she asked me, with a glint of (?)evil in her eye: “So, do you want a present?” Oooooh, the intrigue! “Presents! For me?” I said, all innocently.

That was when she picked up a giant garbage bag and said, “This is all full of yarn – for you!”

I very nearly tore it open so I could dump it on the floor and do the starfish! However – hospital floors are gross. I’m not going to do that.

This bag is full to the brim with neutral and baby colors – all acrylic, but it’s the Zellers Bebe Sayelle stuff that I used to LOVE working with before you couldn’t get it anywhere in this town. Apparently, Krysta would like me to make her some baby legwarmers…dude, I could make her kid legwarmers to last her until she’s collecting a pension! Or at least, make some blankets for the babies in my family…for the next ten years, mind you. I had to laugh because one of Kathy’s sisters asked, “Do you think she’ll use all of it?” to which Kathy replied, “She’s at the age where everyone she knows is having babies. Of course she’s going to use it!” Hee hee hee. ^-^

As I am now currently on my Reading Week, I’m hoping to get a lot of knitting done. I have one of Daniella’s mittens and one of Alex’s socks done already. The second mitten is started, but since I finished the first of the socks late last night, I wasn’t going to cast on for the second one just then. Maybe at SnB tonight…

Oh hey, have I blogged about the Stitch ‘n Bitch I go to? We meet at the Laughing Buddha on Elgin Street, 7:15 PM on Monday nights. (Why 7:15? I have MMA until 7:00 and it takes me a while to get over there, although the travel time is markedly less since we switched the locale from Starbucks on the Kingsway to the Buddha.) Elizabeth and Amelie are great to hang around with, and I wish Hedgie would come back – some nights it’s just me and Elizabeth, and I haven’t missed a knit night yet.
